Comcast, SJ Giants, SJSU and United Site Services Host Official San Jose Independence Day Fireworks

The City of San Jose, Happy Hollow, History San Jose and Kelley Park will also participate in the new July 4th Fireworks celebration at Municipal Stadium and San Jose State University.

SAN JOSE, CALIF June 29, 2009 – The City of San Jose and the San Jose Giants are proud to announce the official Independence Day Fireworks Show will take place at Municipal Stadium following the July 4th Giants game. Comcast has provided additional funding to expand the annual fireworks show and United Site Services is providing the necessary support facilities which will allow the local community to watch the show for free. San Jose State University led the effort to make space available for the community along with Happy Hollow Park & Zoo, History San Jose and Kelley Park to open the entire South Campus area for local citizens to watch the fireworks. The San Jose Giants game vs. the Modesto Nuts will be broadcasted live on Comcast Hometown Network Channel 104 as well as the postgame fireworks show.

“Comcast is proud to partner with the City of San Jose and the San Jose Giants to help the Bay Area’s largest city celebrate Independence Day,” said Comcast Hometown Network’s Andrew Johnson. “When we heard about the possibility of the annual July 4th fireworks display being cancelled we started working with the San Jose Giants on a rescue plan and we’re excited to help bring the fireworks celebration to the community. At Comcast, we dream big and our sponsorship of the July 4th celebration is just the latest example of making what seemed like a dream only a few weeks ago, a reality.”

“Without the support from Comcast, SJSU, United Site Services and the Mayor Chuck Reed this event would not have been made available to the community at large,” said Jim Weyermann, San Jose Giants President and CEO. “No one wanted to see the annual fireworks show leave downtown but in these tough economic times, we need to be creative. We thank the Mayor who took the lead, brought us all together and made this happen.”

The community is invited to watch the fireworks absolutely free on the San Jose State University East Field next to Spartan Stadium or at Kelley Park. Parking for the Giants game will be available for $8 per car in the Municipal Stadium Parking Lot as well as Bud Winter Field. Parking for the Fireworks viewing will be available for $8 per car at the San Jose State 7th Street Parking Lot, as well as Kelley Park, the Japanese Friendship Garden, and History San Jose. Due to the family nature of this event and State laws which regulate the viewing areas, tailgating will be restricted from parking lots and no alcohol allowed. The community is encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to watch the fireworks from the East Field or Kelley Park. Please keep in mind that no coolers are allowed on University property. A satellite Turkey Mike’s Express will be open in the Municipal Stadium parking lot for patrons outside of the stadium. For more information on the event, please visit the San Jose Giants website at www.sjgiants.com.
