San Jose Giants To Receive Award At Banquet On January 29
The California League champion San Jose Giants will be honored at the 24th annual Santa Clara County Hot Stove Banquet on Tuesday, January 29. The banquet, which recognizes area baseball players and teams from the major and minor leagues, college, and high school levels, will be held at the San Jose Elks Club beginning at 5:30 P.M.
Special guests at the event include Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and major league umpires Ted Barrett and Ed Montague. Sports broadcaster Ted Robinson will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.
The San Jose Giants won the California League title last September after defeating the Lake Elsinore Storm in the Championship Series. The Giants won three straight games over the Storm to overcome a 2-0 deficit in the series and claim their second title in the last three seasons. San Jose will be receiving the award for Outstanding Professional Organization.
Other award winners include Tulowitzki (Player of the Year), Jeremy Guthrie of the Baltimore Orioles (Pitcher of the Year), Santa Clara University’s Tommy Medica (College Player Winner), Aaron Bates (Minor League Player Winner), and Nick Pereira (Minor League Pitcher Winner). Pereira, a 2006 San Jose Giant, is a Bay Area native and will be honored after his stellar ’07 campaign with the Double-A Connecticut Defenders.
The price for the event is $40 per person or $400 for a reserved table for ten. Advanced payment is required (see attached document).
